Leadership and Policy
The eighth domain is leadership and policy. There are six associated competencies in this domain. The primary focus of this domain is on the ability to use electronic, print, and organizational resources while acting as a positive role model for acceptance of, treatment of, and interaction with learners and their families.
This domain requires the understanding of how to prepare personnel and community members for interaction with individuals with ASD. It will showcase the understanding of how to provide structure, ongoing training, and support to other key stakeholders in the education of learners with ASD.
Evidence in this domain should highlight the understanding of how to develop and monitor routines, schedules, and sequences of events and activities to maximize learner potential and environmental effectiveness.
8.1 Use electronic, print, and organizational resources related to ASD
This artifact is a certificate for completing training on Rethink Ed. Rethink Ed is a service our district pays for that includes lesson plans, data management, educational resources, and training on ABA strategies for teachers of students with ASD. I utilize all parts of Rethink to help serve my students.
8.2 Demonstrate knowledge of how to prepare personnel and community members for interaction with individuals with ASD
This artifact is a survey I use when preparing in-home or community based training of students with ASD. This survey allows me to uncover what the issues are for the student at home or in the community. This allows me to properly plan interventions and training for parents on how to interact with their student at home and when going out into the community.
8.3 Promote high expectations for self, staff, and individuals with ASD
This artifact is a PowerPoint I created for SPED 757 where I outline the "ideal school system". This PowerPoint shows my high expectations for how school staff and I can best serve individuals with ASD and high expectations of students with ASD to engage in all parts of the school.
This artifact is a social story that I provided the families of my students at the start of the school shut down due to COVID-19. This is part of my continual effort to provide support to my families, other professionals, and paraprofessionals who work with students with ASD.
8.5 Demonstrate knowledge of how to develop and monitor routines, schedules, and sequences of events and activities
This artifact is an outline for a procedure to handle a behavior problem with a student. This shows my ability to develop a procedure, track the behavior, and utilize it throughout the students day during different activities and settings.
8.6 Act as a positive role model for acceptance of, treatment of, and interaction with individuals with ASD and their families
This artifact is a video where I discuss the idea of being in "the Dignity Business" where we treat individuals with disabilities with respect and dignity. This video demonstrates my positive role in the acceptance and treatment of individuals with ASD and all disabilities.
