Research and Inquiry
The seventh domain is research and inquiry. There are three associated competencies in this domain. The primary focus of this domain is on the ability to demonstrate your knowledge of current etiology and practice-based research specific to ASD.
This domain requires the demonstration of understanding of how to interpret and relay research findings in layperson terms or jargon-free language. I will also be asked to reflect on the importance of lifelong learning as outlined by the plans and strategies to remain informed of current research, legislation, and debate concerning ASD so I can consistently assess my own teaching practice to ensure I meet the needs of learners. I will elaborate on how lifelong learning is a necessary component of self-improvement. I will demonstrate recognition of connection between ongoing professional development and the ability to provide EBPs and meaningful learning experiences as I communicate with and interact with others to enhance my skills and abilities to meet evolving learner needs.
7.2 Interpret and relay research findings in layperson terms or jargon-free language
This artifact is a presentation I created on the issue of disproportionality and how it affects my school district. This presentation shows my ability to present and discuss a topic in layperson terms or jargon-free language.
7.3 Remain informed of current research, legislation, and debate concerning ASD
This artifact is a certificate showing my attendance and participation in a local conference on autism. At this conference, Dr. Patrick McGreevy, the creator of the Essential for Living curriculum and assessment, and expert in the field of ABA, shared his research, experience, and the importance of a functional curriculum for individuals with severe disabilities.
